Ride Ratings
Every effort has been made to include a variety of mountain bike and road bike rides for different levels of
ability. Each ride is rated for difficulty, to provide individuals an idea of what to expect on a ride. These ratings should be used as a general guide to determine if a ride is suitable for you. The difficulty of the ride may change due to weather and road conditions.
D
Relaxed Pace (8 - 12 mph) with several rest stops and a set route. Distances usually under 20 miles. Routes are flat to rolling hills. Suitable for novice cyclists.
C
Moderate touring pace (10 - 15 mph) with a ride leader and usually a sweep. Distances up to 40
miles, with routes that are flat to mild climbs. Occasional stops for sight-seeing, photo ops, etc.
B
Faster paced (15 - 20 mph) tours for more experienced cyclists. "B" rides have a ride leader/organizer, but usually no sweep. Routes may be multi-day. Distances up to 100 miles/day. Includes mountain bike rides with moderate climbs and/or distances over 10 miles.
A
Fast pace and/or long distances, for very experienced cyclists.
The ride leader will indicate when the ride is about to begin, familiarize riders with the proposed route, and
lead off. On "C" and "D" rides, a sweep will be designated to ride at the back of the group. Riders should follow the rules of the road, ride single-file on busy roads or those with no shoulder, and should be courteous to motorists and other riders. Riders should notify the leader if they elect to leave the group.
Wednesday Evening Rides
The Wednesday evening rides have a C rating and provide an opportunity for mid-week, non-competitive group rides tailored to moderately skilled and advanced riders. Distances vary according to the amount of daylight available throughout the summer months. Although longer rides are scheduled for the longest nights of the summer, all riders are highly encouraged to carry a bicycle light in addition to their usual gear. All Wednesday evening rides will depart from the west side of Merlin Olsen Park (200 East, between Center St. and 100 South) at 6:30 PM sharp. Rides begin May 2nd.
